A literary creative artistic journal
Shoebox is a self-published, self-funded and independent magazine founded in 2024, dedicated to fostering open conversation, creativity and inclusivity through discussions centered around art, culture and social and political issues.
With the core belief that everyone of us has an opinion, thought or idea that is of value, Shoebox aims to provide a platform on which discussions can take place, stories can be told and ideas can be conveyed, using art and culture as starting points.
How can art and culture connect people? How do they relate to our daily lives? What issues drive us to create, discuss, take part and explore?
Or more critically, what place does art and culture have in our 21st-century world of systemic injustices and mistreatment?
And how does one enable these discussions in a way that fosters growth, connection, mutual understanding and new perspectives, while not adhering to the stiffness of hoity-toity artspeak, academia and gatekeeping?
These questions and aims lie at the heart of Shoebox and as such demand constant revision and remaking in order to stay relevant and grow.

Open call for our first issue
(Shoebox Magazine is based in The Netherlands, and previously in Egypt. We operate within an international network on social media and in the cities we manoeuvre, reaching out through open calls and direct invitations.
Submissions to participate in coming issues of Shoebox Magazine are read on a running basis and sent to magazineshoebox@gmail.com. We aim to release three issues per year, with open calls for submissions being spread on our website, social media and across our immediate network.
As an international publication, Shoebox uses English as its primary language while encouraging contributions in any language. By publishing original texts with or without translation, we aim to facilitate an inclusive and accessible space that tackles language barriers and crosses our arbitrary borders.
We are capable translators between English, Swedish and Arabic, and will look to collaborate with translators for other languages when needed to the best of our ability.
All our previous issues are available as free PDFs by clicking the respective links on our site, and for any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.)
