It was a fuzzy day; like stepping out of the movies
or waking up.
The sky was all grey except for a single mouthwash
coloured stain in the center.
Everyone was walking...
& no one knew why, but everyone was.
& On this day, it felt like the roof of your mouth when you are ill.
People were walking, everywhere
& anywhere,
with dogs,
with kids
& rafters,
lovers ’n’ wives & bikes
all together,
or all alone.
People greeted each other with the strangest things
that no one cared about.
One man, with his wife and their dog, shouted to a neighbour:
“My dog was born on March 2nd and
her Momma is expecting to give birth to
a new litter on the 2nd of March.”
And that neighbour, with a hat on and a wife by his side, did not say:
“Well of course! The breeders are making them fuck
at regular intervals so they can keep the supply of puppies up....
Only to then give ’em away to the butcher’s -
or sell ‘em to a nice loving family, instead of....-”
No he did not say this.
Instead he shared pleasantries, and his wife
asked them over for dinner on Sunday
and
“Oh! How’s Georgie doing in College?”
And all ‘A-Cross’ people
were telling each other things that really only concerned them, like :
“Hi, my name is Joe
I work in a button factory.”
Asking things like:
“Where are you from? I noticed your accent.”
Some even looked each other dead in the eyes and said;
“I Love You”
& This day was peculiar because everyone said Hello
without remembering the ‘my’ in ‘my name is’
or the ‘I’ in ‘I love you’.
Maybe they didn’t notice.
Maybe no one cared.
Maybe people for once,
were just out to share.
But then again,
it was fuzzy, like waking up
or coming out of the movies, and the people awoke.

Again; coming back to life.
They noticed that the sky was grey and muted.
And on that day; that actual day,
with only a mouthwash stain in the center of the surface,
They muttered something under their collective breaths,
and went to work
without saying a word to anyone that did not matter.
